Please Remember This On Tax Day
If not, we only have ourselves to blame.
I don’t know what is worse; being #racist, ignorant, or stupid but you’re dragging down the country with you.
I just prepared a #tax return for one of those hard working “#illegal immigrants” that Trump and #Republicans talk about with such disdain.
For all the long hours, he worked in 2016, he was paid $37,160. He’s going to PAY $3,083 in FEDERAL TAXES and $641 in STATE TAXES.
Aside from his withholdings, he’s paying the employer’s portion of taxes on $32,000 from wages because his EMPLOYER didn’t fulfill their tax obligations.
All while billionaire President #DonaldTrump has said he has paid ZERO in federal taxes.
I can hear it now. “If he’s #illegal, how can he have a #SocialSecurity number?”
NEWS FLASH: #Immigration and #employment laws change with political winds, but the #IRS accepts tax dollars regardless. Either with a Social Security number if one was issued or a #ITIN (Individual Tax Identification Number).
The Individual Tax Identification Number (#ITIN) is a tax processing number issued by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to ensure that people – including unauthorized immigrants – pay taxes even if they do not have a Social Security number and regardless of their immigration status.
ITINs allow the IRS to bring in billions of dollars the federal government otherwise would have no way of collecting to billions from individuals who will never claim a refund but contribute to the American #economy.
The REAL reason you’ll never see immigration or labor laws enforced under #Republicans: Americans are sheep.
The Republican recipe is to strike an anti-immigrant tone to get re-elected by dividing and conquering the working class while laughing to the bank.
One will be hard pressed to find ACTUAL funding for border security from the Republican party.
Why? Because they want to ensure a steady supply of cheap, exploited labor that only benefits employers; not the hard worker who wants to better his life or the American taxpayer.
Second, Labor laws:
It’s about supply and demand.
Unless labor laws enforced and employees (immigrants and citizens) are protected from being exploited, things will not change; wall or not.
Make employers and workers equally accountable for the greater good of the economy and not to the benefit of a few.
To do so, employers and workers all must be on the same playing field:
Utilize the existing talents, skills and experience of the undocumented labor force that is already here. Be pragmatic and legalize. There are many immigrants who want to stay in the United States permanently that do and WANT to pay their fair share of taxes because they are appreciative of this country. The same cannot be said about some American corporations. It’s senseless to keep them from doing so. It not only hurts undocumented workers; it costs the country.
Shift the government’s limited resources from deporting non-criminals to enforcement at the US Treasury (IRS). Gasp!
While no one likes to pay taxes, the most effective and cheapest way to prevent illegal immigration is to legalize those that are already here and contributing to the economy. Overnight, black market and underground industries that thrive at workers’ and American taxpayer’s expense would die. Employment would be based on how well you can perform a job and not how little employers could pay you.
Enforce labor laws so reputable companies who PAY TAXES aren’t undercut by domestic and foreign companies utilizing exploited labor.
Republicans must stop giving unfair advantages to unscrupulous companies. You know if employers aren’t paying their employees the minimum wage, they’re certainly not paying their fair share of taxes.
Republicans are correct: “NOTHING IS FOR FREE”.
Either they enforce our immigration and labor laws or workers and the American taxpayer will continue to get stuck with the bill.
You can’t make a middle class out of a sow’s ear.
